I do enjoy this little slice of heaven along I-65. Whenever I travel home to Mobile from Huntsville I stop here and pick up some of the family favorites. The nuts can get pretty expensive, but we love them anyway. They have a neat little store that sells nuts of all kinds, along with a store similar to that of a Cracker Barrel. They sell a good amount of Alabama and Auburn gear, and all kinds of fancy little things. Sometimes it's just the perfect reprieve from a long day in the car. They also have a buffet style lunch for a reasonable price.

Priester's Pecans- a huge building filled with stupid cracker barrel shit and lots of different pecans, most of which are weird colors and are flavored- very, very odd. However when traveling this magical (sarcasm anyone??) stretch of I-65 in Alabama there is not shit else to see or do. So if you need to stretch your legs and are in the mood for some good people watching and freaky pecan candy tasting then this is your spot!

Great place to stop, get out and stretch, dog walk area with water. Right off the highway.

OMG. If you ever find yourself on I 65 south of Montgomery (about 30 miles), you need to stop off here (signs are near the exit). This place is amazing. There is all kinds of candy like peanut brittle, turtle type candy, divinity you name it. They have a ton of interesting dipping sauces (I'm partial to the key lime) and of course the pecans which are plain, glazed with honey and in all sorts of flavors like key lime, orange, rum, cinnamon...really, tons of flavors. And they have free samples of everything. The fiddlesticks are my new favorite candy. It's a gooey conglomeration of caramel, pecans, chocolate and they are awesome. Check out the basket of goofs which are half price delicious mistakes. I believe that you can watch them make some stuff if you go upstairs and I think there is a restaurant, but honestly, I have never gotten that far. Today was my 4th time I've been there on my way back to Atlanta from Texas and it's always clean and the people who work there are nice and the candy and pecans are amazing!

Growing up, pecan pie was a paradox: dessert too sweet to eat? Who in the world would want oddly-colored walnuts suspended in Karo syrup and placed in a pie shell? A few years ago, a family member started sending out pecan pies from Priester's at seasonal holiday time. Delicious: rich, sweet, nutty and not at all like cinnamon-praline jello.

We stopped at Priester's Pecans, as we always do, when we're traveling along I-65 in Alabama to visit with our family. We usually like to grab some snacks for ourselves as well as an assortment of items to share with family while we visit. On this occasion it was Christmas Eve and it was not as busy as it is normally. We had seen a nice assortment on their Web site and were interested in getting it but could not locate it. I asked the male clerk and he was quite rude. He just point in a generalized area as to where it would be, if there was any left and he said that they aren't going to make any more of them. It was very rude that he could not show us where it was located and that he said that they were not going to make more (when we did not ask them to). We never did find the item, but we did find another assortment to purchase. When I took it to check out, the clerk said that it was the display box and that I needed to put it back and get a different box instead. I could not remember where I picked it up as the place is very unorganized. In frustration, I picked up an identical box (which turned out not to be the assortment that I had intended on purchasing). We also needed to use the restrooms but could not as there was a long line of folks. The men's restroom has only one toilet. From what we could tell, the restrooms were not clean anyway. We thought that Priester's Pecans was something special, but we were wrong. Our experience indicated that they are just another company out to make the biggest buck possible without spending any money keeping their store clean, organized or providing any customer service. I anticipate that we'll get to our destination quicker in the near future as we won't be stopping at Fort Deposit, AL
